Naked2: The Spike to my Buffy

Smeagol had his ring, the squirrel from Ice Age had his acorn, Buffy had Angel... I have my Naked Palette. A tried and true palette that I use pretty much every day. I have a backup for my dwindling first palette because I was unsure of it's permanency and in a frenzied panic I bought it again when they re-released it! Can't let that beautiful palette get away from my collection.. you know how it is.

Extreme nerdiness is about to ensue.. so if you are of the non-nerd kind please try to keep up! If I were Buffy, the Naked Palette is my Angel. Something I didn't know of before it came into my life but I cannot picture my life (fine, maybe just my makeup routine) without it. It is near and dear and I like to molest it daily (it never turned evil on me though). And though for Buffy, Angel had to leave to ensue a not as good television show, my Naked palette isn't going ANYWHERE. Fast forward a couple craptastic love affairs for Buffster, Spike comes along. He is a bit rough around the edges and not Angel by any means.. but in his own way he is good and amazing, a worthy companion. He is worth fighting for and he was also fun to molest. This is what the new Naked2 Palette is for me.

Now onto an easier to follow over all review.

I do REALLY like the packaging for this palette. I feel that maybe they heard that us makeup chicks liked to throw the first naked palette into our bags and that they may or may not have gotten a beating from being jumbled around all day. I do not know which one I like more, as the first one seems sleeker and more subdued.. the Naked2 palette is not any bigger, it is pretty much the same size as the first but it seems bulkier to me (probably because it is in a metal tin). The other thing I like about this palette is that it came with a mini GLOSS as opposed to a UD Primer Potion. I am filled to my ears with Travel Primer Potions, so the gloss is a very nice deviance from the norm. The color is alright... it is a bit too terracotta colored for my liking on it's own but I can pair it with a lighter lipstick which is the wonderful thing about glosses!

We open up the palette to reveal twelve neutral colors. None of which (that I have seen or swatched) have any chunky glitter like the last palette which may come as a relief to some people. I personally never really minded the glitter in Sidecar, I kind of liked it for a glamorous neutral. The Naked2 palette consists of only 3 mattes (which is a let down to a few) and 9 beautiful shimmery/satiny shades and a few of those have a metallic base. Five of these colors are new colors (Bootycall, Tease, Snakebite, Pistol & Busted) and the rest are repromoted shadows. I think the important thing to remember is that though many of these are repromoted and may not seem like the most UNIQUE shadows, they are all together in one package and you can create many looks with one palette that you can wear for every day OR spice it up for a night on the town. It is versatile and the shadows are an amazing quality, the kind that only Urban Decay can deliver! This palette also comes with a dual ended brush which I will mostly use when I take this palette to go, or throw it into my naked 1 palette if that is the poison I pick for the day.

I did swatch the colors in the order they are in the palette. I wanted to show you how it looks over two different primers. The top half is swatched over Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden and the bottom half is swatched over Urban Decay Primer Potion in Greed. I do not know if you will be able to tell the difference in the lighter shades but you can definitely see that Greed let's a little bit of it's golden tone shine through on the darker colors. I also swatched the Naked lip gloss so you could see the color payoff it has.

I would say overall I do enjoy this palette, I would give it 4/5 stars. I will use it to it's fullest potential and enjoy every swipe of glorious shadow it has to offer... however the original Naked palette will always have my six!

A Mini MAC Haul

I indulged... but just a little.

MAC is always one of those things that I "treat" myself to. It isn't uber expensive, it just is a "treat". I pay for more expensive things at Sephora but I justify it with the fact I get points there. I originally was just going to go down to the MAC store and pick up fluidline (lost my blacktrack) and be done with it. That of course, went out the window when I browsed some of their newer collections. So.. I picked up some goodies.

Like I said, I originally picked up fluidline, so its nothing fancy just basic and necessary.

Then I saw these paintpots. They are so pretty that they also became necessary...
And... well... lipstick is always necessary... right?

I love the colors I picked up, especially the mattene lipstick in "Delectable".

Have you picked up any new MAC lately?

Super SHWING!

Yeah. I made the Wayne's World reference. WHAT ABOUT IT CHUMP?!

I should start rating my mascaras with "shwing"s.

Lights, Camera, Splashes has stolen my heart. Despite it's packaging I am in love with this mascara! And it is waterproof! I always think of waterproof mascaras as utterly disappointing. This is the exception... and it is quite exceptional!

This is a wet formula with a not very exciting brush, it looks pretty standard, not huge and not tiny.. just very standard. I think the formula is what really stands out in this mascara. It seriously adds length to my lashes! It is a super black mascara and it doesn't budge or flake or run. It is waterproof. I wore this to my friend's wedding and it lasted! I cried. A lot. This has been the best investment I have made towards mascara. I have the original (non waterproof) mascara coming in the mail shortly. I had ordered it in a Hautlook event. I am pretty excited to get it. Have you tried this mascara? What do you think?

I love the dramatic look it gives my lashes! Makes them look so much longer than they are!

Yes. Those are my lashes creepily close to my eyebrow. Amazingly dramatic.

In other words.. SHA-WING!!!!!

Urban Decay Haul- My Pre-Sale experience

The Urban Decay Master Class that was held September 3rd at Valley Fair Mall. It was not so much of a class as it was a pre-sale event (which was obvious prior to buying into the class) and they featured all the products that would be available for the holidays with the exception of the HD foundation that they will be coming out with and the Naked Palette II.

From the pre-sale I had picked up the Book of Shadows vol IV and the two 24/7 liner travel sets which were Naked and Electric.

The Book of Shadows vol IV is not getting much love from the mass majority but I think it is a nice enough palette. It doesn't have very many "wow" colors but it does include very rich velvety shadows. This was a box of gimmicks and I am not complaining. This is a nod to the digital age with a funky butterfly design on the front and card with the QR codes to check out how to achieve the looks. I have not yet used this feature but I did play with the portable speaker that it came with a little bit, it is a decent portable speaker but nothing out of the ordinary. Love the color though! I have included pictures of the box open and swatches of the colors..

Overall I am happy with the book of shadows, it is full of colors that work well together and I can achieve simple and dramatic looks easily!

I also bought the Electric liner set which included Perversion, Ransom, Woodstock, Radium and Junkie. I have to admit that I mostly bought this kit for Perversion. I love black liners and I did not buy the anniversary liner set which included this precious pitch black gem! I do like the other colors that it comes with, very vibrant and I am excited to try out Woodstock in a look.

Finally, I decided on the Naked pencil palette. I have been enjoying brown liners for toned down looks. I am very happy with this set of liners. They browns are all so very different going from brownish black to a taupe color.

I made a video featuring this haul and I also showed the gifts with purchases (Makeup Meltdown & Rollergirl Nail Polish set) it came with for the pre-sale. I should also mention that during the "master class" I went home with an Urban Decay Quinceanera bag, in it was a full size Primer Potion in Greed, a sample size Lip Junkie in Wallflower, a pair of falsies and I think another sample of something... I cannot remember right now. I think I would do it again if the opportunity arose but I was a bit disappointed that I got my stuff after these items hit shelves.

Did you pick up anything from the new Urban Decay collections?

Better than Waterproof? Part II

Let me start this off by saying I am a mascara JUNKIE. I am obsessed with different mascaras and often wish I had 10 eyes to use my mascaras on. I am not over picky on high end or drug store, I mainly focus on formula and brush. For instance, this mascara was a disappointment for me all around. I can't really express to you how sad this makes me. I'd cry but this "better than waterproof" mascara would smudge all over my eyes.

I tried to like this. I used it for 2 weeks. I tried curling and then applying it... I tried applying it then curling my lashes. I even tried curling, applying and curling again. I just cannot do anything with this mascara! It is a very dry mascara, and flakes quite easily. Which is strange because I could have sworn in the store is was a much more wet formula... which is why I thought I bought it in the first place. However, it was late and I was desperate for a mascara for my friend's wedding and maybe just wanted to find a mascara and picked this one up out of convenience of being at CVS (Beauty 360).

Ok, dry mascaras. People love them.. I do not. They do not stick to my lashes as well, although it gives you nice "I'm not wearing mascara" look which is never what I am looking for. I want ridiculous length, volume and curl holding power. This just does not deliver.

I can even deal with a crap formula if they give me a decent brush. This is very basic and large. It doesn't get where I would like it to go, I can't "define" my lashes because the fiber bristles are so tightly together in a spiral brush that it can't grab individual lashes. Especially because the formula was so dry. I do not want to hate on Cargo... but I am starting to not have much faith in their products. Maybe I will find something to prove me wrong. Probably not anytime soon though, this was much too much money ($19.99 USD) to waste on a product that I will never EVER use again.

As for removal of the product, supposedly comes off in tubes with warm water. I apparently have no idea how to do this so I go for the try to "slide" the "tubes" off but actually just get it all over my eyes and face approach. It is not working well for me. I am going to retire this mascara to the garbage can now, since I did my review. As I said I would. Now for the lack luster pictures. By the way, my eyelashes are not short. So if it looks like there is length, that is just my eyelashes and has nothing to do with this mascara. It did nothing but make them kind of black.

I am working on my face routine posts, so check back for those shortly. Hope you are having a wonderful day!

The trials and errors of makeup

I think that best makeup days (for me) start with a well prepped face. Cleaned, moisturized and set with some De Slick. I do not have time to let moisturizer set a lot of the time so I skip the step... but then my makeup falls flat or doesn't apply as evenly.

On days like that a tinted moisturizer is ideal. Now if only I can find my holy grail tinted moisturizer. Any suggestions?!

Back to my point, I think this is where many people go wrong when applying makeup. I definitely do not have flawless skin so the prep time IS important. To make sure I do not have dry skin I have to exfoliate then moisturize. Moisturizing is tricky depending on your skin type. If you are acne prone then you want an oil free moisturizer or one that contains properties that can heal and prevent acne. I am getting quite ahead of myself... I think I will do blog posts in this order:

Exfoliating/Choosing a cleanser
Moisturizing/Toning
Foundation Primers
Setting Makeup.

This is ambitious, especially for me. However, I have concepts and ideas and I should do the research anyway.

Also, don't worry. I have no forgotten to review Cargo's Better Than Waterproof Mascara. I am just waiting on getting some high quality photos of what the mascara looks like on my lashes. ALSO! I made a video, I just need to edit a bit then upload. It is September/Summer favorites. I will get that up, you can bet your bottom dollar on that!

Look forward to my upcoming posts. They will be worth it!

Better than Waterproof?

Better than waterproof? Well, this is the claim Cargo is making for this mascara. The description claims that like waterproof mascara, this will stay on without smudging or running and it will come off in "tiny tubes" with warm water and gentle pressure...

I was in need of a waterproof mascara. My childhood friend of 15+ years was getting married! I was in the bridal party as a bridesmaid and did not want to look like the hysterical mess I was. So, being me.. I used it as an excuse to venture into the world of waterproof mascaras. I do not buy waterproof mascaras because they normally flake on my lashes and get a hot mess going all over my under eye and cheek area. I decided to hit up Beauty 360 at CVS. The ladies there were quite nice... but really knew nothing. Otherwise they would not have pointed me to this mascara that I should have READ before purchasing (this retails $20.00, by the way). Tears=warm water. LUCKILY, I read this part a few days before the wedding.. UNFORTUNATELY I read it after I had already tested it out at home.

The formula in store seemed wetter than the one I have. The one I have is pretty dry. I know a lot of people like that... I am not one of those people. This is the only color it comes in which is pretty black (not the blackest but way darker than charcoal). I am going to give this a try for the next few days to give a better review of the product. I am refusing to discount it from my collection completely as I rarely buy high end mascaras and I want my money's worth. I will be wearing it to a baseball game tomorrow and it is supposed to be hot! I will see how the "UE" (ultimate endurance) formula stands up against the weather and my oiliness.

I *did* buy a waterproof mascara that worked beautifully... that my friend, shall wait until the next post.

P.S. Those who are wondering.. she was beautiful and I haven't seen her happier! Congrats Brian & Kyla!

Halloween...

I made a new layout for Halloween. It isn't very Halloween like.. but I am going with it anyway. And about those pictures of the stuff. Bleh, I will do better next time. I played with some of the glorious things and here is a snippet of the eye look. I used the 15 Year Anniversary Palette for Urban Decay and the Makeup Forever liquid eyeliner.

I didn't do the rest of my face so excuse the sorry cut out of my eyeballs. But you can see some of the fabulous products I used. The Mascara was Benefit's They're Real! and the water line black used was Milani's liquif'eye liner. I truly love this blue. It is much more vibrant, my lighting just wouldn't catch how beautiful it really is!

I have some reviews for some products I need to write up, so as I hop to that, I hope you are having a lovely September!

Soap & Glory Excitement!

Who else is stoked about Soap and Glory coming back to America?! I am so happy! I ran out of the Righteous Butter long ago and I have been savoring every last moment of The Fab Pore. My mom will be excited to see Clean on Me back in the shower (she loved that scent). I just palced my order for The Fab Pore, The Righteous Butter and Hand Food. It will be available in Sephora stoes is September. Or, you can be an impatient dinosaur like me and order online now!

I am not sure if it will be available in Target anymore. Does anyone know?!

Also, I haven't forgotten about those pictures. I have just have an uber case of laziness when I get home (plus been busy watching baseball games!). They will be on their way.. I have also been thinking of making a video. We will see how motivated I am when I get back home from work tonight!

Blogger...

Why have you been down (or at least the dashboard)?! I decided that since this has been a few days I would do some research and it said that I can just go to my blog and hit "new post". Yeah.. I do not know why I didn't think of that!

I am here now, and that is all that matters. I wanted to do a mini update on things I have bought and the like. The Hello Kitty box I swatched from Sephora few weeks back is now in my possession! Pictures and such will occur when I get my camera back from my boyfriend. So.. Monday... maybe...

I hope you have been well.

15th Anniversary Palette [URBAN DECAY]

I got my palette in the mail today! I am so excited! It is so pretty, I cannot wait to use it. All new shadows... how can it go wrong?! The picture quality sucks as I do not have my digital camera, so this is camera phone style. Excuse the mess, you get the point though!!!

These swatches were done with no primer, I will do ones with primer at a later time. I was just too excited that I had to post this!

Oh, mah gawd! Excuse me while I go play!

Minor Changes

So I updated the look of the blog a little bit. It is not my finest work but I wanted it to be slightly more original than the pre-made layouts that blogger offers. Although the pink one was cuter than this! Oh well... it works for now!

On to other fabulous things...
I took myself off of the makeup buying ban. I have been getting migraines, and the only thing in my life that has changed is that I have not been buying makeup... so.. it is for my health...

Ya'know how it goes. So if I had to spend.. I should spend big! I bought the Urban Decay 15th Anniversary Palette! It was $55.00 USD, they have liquid liners on sale at urbandecay.com so I went ahead and got me one of those fancy do-dads as well. I shall post pictures once the precious gem arrives in the mail.

I also purchased some essie polishes at Target. I obtained Nice is Nice, Lilacism and Tourqoise and Caicos. I will post those pictures, probably tomorrow!

Until then I am off to get some sleep before work! Probably still going to tweak the look of this... Maybe tone down the color.. hm.

See ya later, gorgeous!

Back in the Swing!

So, my new project manager said I should get on with it and start posting and even gave me the inspiration (or excuse to go to Sephora) for Sephora Saturday. Obviously it is Sunday but I went on Saturday so.. it will be either Sephora Saturday or Sunday, depending on how the next few weeks go.

The problem with this idea; I am on a make up ban. I am forcing a "project pan" on myself for 10 products. This has been quite challenging for myself since there have been so many summer sales going on the web! Needless to say this trip to Sephora has been sad but quite swatchful.

I spend hours on end in Sephora, probably enough to annoy the staff that greet me a million times. These are a few of the highlights, rather, the make up I have been eyeing to add to my collection once my ban is over!

This precious gem is something I have been wanting since the collection became available on presale. I was weary on ordering make up from this collection as I have not been impressed by most of Sephora's make up in the past. I blindly ordered some of the products based off of how they looked. I skipped this product because a whole tin of crappy eye pencils for $28.00 would not justify the buy for me even with the tin. This IS worth $28.00. They are super long lasting and the color pay off is FANTASTIC. I will be picking up this lovely set as soon as my ban is through!

Have you bought anything from the Hello Kitty for Sephora collection? I am super stoked to get something from the Graffiti Collection. I also purchased the eye shadow quad/blus duo compact from the Cherry Blossom collection.

Ok. THIS is just ridiculous! But that is why I want it. It is the new mascara by Too Faced, Size Queen. The brush is ridiculously large, utterly unnecessary. That is the beauty of it. I can't imagine pulling this out to apply mascara, it is so cartoonish. I LOVE IT. I'd whip it out in Disneyland while wearing Minnie Ears... no joke.

OH! Do you have Acne problems? I do, I had a spout of breakouts a few weeks ago. It was no a pretty sight. Normally I have pretty decent skin (I do have oily combination in case you were wondering), and I can keep it under control with Aveeno Clear Skin face moisturizer. This is was so bad that I whipped out the sulfur masks and drying creams. I had a deluxe sample of the Murad Drying Face Mask so I used that and it helped minimize the break outs.

The stars aligned for me that day, when I retrieved my mail it contained an Ulta catalog which contained the Murad Acne System for $36.00. In the kit (mini 30 day kit), there is a Facial Cleanser, Clarifying Gel, Lotion and Spot Treatment. I went the following day to retrieve it from the store and I have to say, "WOW!". This really helped out my issues and I would recommend this line to anyone who was having acne issues. I would NOT recommend purchasing this kit from Ulta. ONLY because on this same kit PLUS more is available at Sephora for for only $33.00.

Slightly disheartened when I saw this. I am a Sephora Girl, I just happened to see the Ulta ad first. I like Ulta but I must say.. Ulta.. I am disappoint.

I will keep you posted on my other adventures. Until then, you can check out more detailed reviews I have posted on beautylish.

Dinosaur Hugs!

Oh My OPI!!

This is an overall opinion on OPI. Not any specific collection but the quality of the polish. OPI makes some fantastic collections. To be honest I love me some nail polish but I couldn't possibly afford to buy from every collection! Now I have tried OPI, Sephora by OPI and most recently Nicole by OPI. I am just going to start with the Sephora by OPI.

I have the color Access 24/7. This was a freebie for ordering products online on Valentine's Day. I have always been hesitant to buy these polishes and I figured "Hey it's free with the purchase so why not?"

Yeah. So not impressed with it. I love the color. I love it so much that it breaks my heart (SERIOUSLY BREAKS IT) that it takes a gazillion coats for it to be that color. Perhaps that is why they were just giving it away. Still, I do not see myself ever purchasing any of their colors from Sephora... I wouldn't pass on another free one though. Obviously you can buy these atrocities at Sephora stores or Sephora.com. I shall not link it because I detest it that much.

So.... Nicole for OPI. Way better than Sephora by OPI. I don't know what that says? You can find the Nicole by OPI at Target and probably other stores but I have only seen it at Target. Fantastical Fuchsia is the color I decided to choose. The consistency is alright and it applies easy enough. I like the vibrant colors that the Nicole brand has and the range of glitter to metallics. I like everything but the finish. I noticed that the finish is sort of flat and brush stroked in certain areas. Maybe it dries funny? It wasn't all I had hoped for but I would purchase it again since there are always top coats. Worth giving a try and there is the off chance I purchased a "bad" one.

Ok OPI, you are not a complete disaster for me by any means! For I love OPI Nail Lacquer. Why? I shall tell you! These expensive fantastic bottles of nail coloring joy not only look great but they wear so well! My favorite OPI Nail Laquer is Done Out In Deco. It is a light grayish toned lavender. I am pretty fair skinned so the color appears more purple than sickly. The colors on all the polishes dry fairly fast and dry very nicely. The finish on them is always smooth and looks like it was done at a salon. They also have the best glitter polishes. I love them so much! My favorite glitter polish from them is Absolutely Alice (limited edition) and the amount of glitter is not sparing in the slightest.

I hate buying glitter polishes and just a few specks of the glitter actually get on the nail. I want ridiculous, over the top glitter pay off. That is what OPI accomplishes. I have bought one of the glitter polishes from the Katie Perry collection, "Teenage Dream". Fabulous. I put on two coats for shits n giggles and my nail was nowhere to be seen underneath. Excellent. Yes, these polishes deserve one word sentences people. Oneword. I do recommend that the glitter polishes be topped with the top coat for sure for a smoother finish because sometimes the crazy amounts of glitter can snag on clothing (no one likes when that happens).

Sorry for the run ons and the lack luster. I have been pretty ill as of late but I wanted to post something about these polishes as I have just painted my nails. Hope some of this information was even remotely helpful and/or interesting!

Ojon Hair Restorative Treatment

Firstly, I just want to say that I hate the smell of this. It reminds me of tobacco? I don't know why but it is unpleasant to me. You may feel different about it. I only had a sample of the product bit my hair is pretty dry so I thought I would try it out. The interesting thing about this product is that you do not have to wash or wet hair before use. This is an extremely concentrated oil. You need about a dime size amount and simply "activate" it by rubbing in between your palms and it turns into an oil.

After applying this product to the roots to tips of my hair I automatically was turned off by the smell. It says to leave it on for about 5-10 minutes. I left it on for ten minutes and then shampooed as normal. I didn't really notice much of a difference after washing my hair and still ended up applying leave in conditioner.

I actually have oily hair but since I have over treated it in the past the middle and tips of my hair get pretty dry if I do not use some sort of high concentrated conditioner or hair mask. It did not make my hair greasy and washed out pretty easily.

I like Ojon products but this did not impress me very much. I am willing to give this musky smelly oil another go. I am thinking about buying the value set from Sephora with the volumizing shampoo and conditioner which comes with this oil.

I wouldn't say that this is a run out and go buy product but I think maybe after a few applications it could be effective. I would give it 3/5 stars.

The Typical... But Still My Favorite

I thought I would go ahead and start my first post off with my favorite eyeshadow palette. It is many people's favorite. I'm serious though. This is my favorite palette!

The Urban Decay Naked Palette

I use this pretty much every day. The only time I do not use this is when I do not have it with me. I do not travel with this because I am always scared it will break and I will die. You can go from every day toned down to super dramatic and smoky. The shadows themselves are extremely pigmented and creamy. They blend like a dream! You can find some better quality pictures and swatches here. I will do these myself in the future but since this is such a known and reviewed palette (and my camera is dead) I will forgo the trouble for this post.

I have some favorite tutorials that I love to actually follow (I usually watch tutorials for fun) that I will link here:
Makeup Geek's "Kim Kardashian Smoky Eye"
Kandee Johnson's "Naked Smokey Eye"

Those are the one's that I like to use every now and then but really you do not need a tutorial to use this palette. All the colors go with each other so there is no real fear of clashing the colors. It is great for an every day look as well, I just stick to the lighter colors on the left of the palette and if I choose to make it a day time smoky eye, I just smoke it out with "Naked" or buck since they do not contain any shimmer. I do highly recommend using a primer under these shadows. It allows them to show brighter and definitely grabs the color better with less product (I find I have to build it up otherwise). I use Too Faced Shadow Insurance, but the palette comes with a sample of the Urban Decay Primer Potion. Primers are something that you have to figure out what one works best for you.

I do want to buy a back up but these precious beauties sell out before they can even hit the shelves!

There are alternatives to this palette by Too Faced (Natural Eye Palette & Naked Eye Palette) and Nyx. I also own Nyx Nude on Nude. The palette is OK, but it isn't what I think is superb. It is not the Naked Palette for sure but I still use it. This is the one I carry with me and use when I do not have my Naked Palette. There are some similar colors in it but I think that the NEW Nude on Nude Palette may have more similar colors. I may purchase the new one. I am not big on lip palettes though so I think that part (for me) is a waste of purchase. I did purchase the Naked Eye Palette by Too Faced so I shall let you know how that compares. I do love the Too Faced shadows. They are always super pigmented and have a great texture!

If you know of any other palettes, please let me know! I don't know if buying a back up will ever be an option for me. Although I might just buy most of them in single shadows? Who knows what my make up future holds...

The Beginning

With all good stories there is a beginning. I guess this can be mine. As trivial as it may seem to some people, makeup (to me) is exciting and fun. I can't quite describe the feeling I get when I peruse through Mac or Sephora sufficiently molesting the products before I buy them. For someone who is not a makeup artist, I own quite a bit. Maybe not as many as some people on the vast land they call the internet... however, in my life, I have more makeup than anyone I know. I talk makeup like it is my job and I try different products like there is no tomorrow.

Colors, textures, application... there are so many endless things to talk about. And though some of my friends humor me and listen to me jabber on an on about the new pallets I am excited about or the new mascara I am trying that month... I somehow believe I should take it upon myself to harass any poor soul who happens upon this page. ;)

So... beware. This is my disclaimer. You are now entering the danger zone of Makeup Blabber.
